The European U17 rating tournament in Latvia will take place for the third year in a row, despite the problems caused by Covid-19. This year the tournament will take place from July 29 to 31, in Sigulda.
The tournament was initially registered by 109 participants from 10 countries. At present, a few days before the tournament, the number of countries has dropped to 9, as there will be no players from Belgium. Only players from Israel, Italy, France, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia remain in the tournament.
Unfortunately, the Estonian representation has more than halved, as two players have contracted Covid-19 and the rest of the club team is in quarantine. Some players have also withdrawn from the Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian teams.
Unfortunately, there is bad news for players from France and Israel, as these countries are no longer “green” during tournament week. Players from these countries will be able to participate in the Latvian tournament, but outside the tournament games, these players must be isolated, avoiding excursions and public places.
